Great playback features

** UPDATE: The alternate decoder now plays my H265 videos again in HW+. I'm not sure what changed, whether my fiddling got it just right, or it was the recent Fire OS 5.3.2 update. I now have no reservations on this player. Does everything I want.

Works very well for compressed h264 and pretty well for h265. Earlier in the year (2016), I was able to apply hardware acceleration for h265 videos for my Fire 7 Tablet (2015 version). Now, later in the year, those same videos are reverting to software mode, and I cannot seem to get them to play with hardware acceleration. I haven't been able to figure out why. I guess I'll start converting everything back to the inferior h264, even though the Fire 7 claims it can handle this format at the hardware level.

Beyond the above issue, its still my favorite player. No other player handles display and playback features better, that I've been able to find.

Best APP for viewing your AVI and MP4 files

This is my favorite mp4 video player app. I've always used MX player on my phone. The MX player app always plays my mp4 and avi files. I loaded up a bunch of videos to my Fire SD card and tried to play the audio back on the VLC player. I received audio but no video.None of the video files were displaying in their folders. I downloaded the MX Player app, and as soon as I opened the APP my folders displayed. There were thumbnails for each file. Everything was organized in the folders. The video display is incredible, and the audio syncs up correctly as well. I recommend this app to anyone who has some MP4 and AVI files they want to view on the go. I like having the subtitles display. You can choose to download the subtitles from the web. You can adjust the tools and settings. It's probably the best app for viewing your own mp4 and AVI files.

Update: STILL takes forever to scan the drive, while VLC sees the files and usb almost instantly. PLEASE give some program feedback/busy indicator, that the program is doing something. Wife plugs in big USB HDD and the program takes forever to show things.

Been using this player on my Omni Fire TV to watch local videos from hard drives. Works very well.. Except for a few issues.

1. It likes to show the UUID of my Drives, not the Disk Label.
2. The color themes/GUI is often so 'light on light' colors that the wife with her poor vision cant tell where the cursor/selection box is. Please Devs work on a Decent Contrast theme.

3. The silly thing is CONSTANTLY not able to see my drives, it may work for weeks, then now it cant find them at all. Refresh does nothing, with no feedback. VLC, and KODI are both able to see the drives fine. Sometimes I have to totally reset the app/clear cache/data. and it MAY eventually discover the drives.

Over all - its a decent player. Fairly easy to use, when you can see the buttons/ui.

Was unsure of this app as I had been burned by other media apps before. Not this one. This player is the one to get. No problems playing my transcoded TiVo files. It also has a built in media browser that's faster than the Kindle's browser, and better transport controls options (skip with a user settable length). Two things I don't like. 1) The ads. I would gladly pay for a non-ad version if it were available now that I have had a chance to use it. They only appear the the player is paused but sometimes cover too much of the screen when I trying to look at a freeze frame of something interesting, like trying to see the background site gags in the Simpsons. 2) Would like the ability to choose which transport controls appear on screen. Sometimes I press the next and previous by mistake and it is kind of annoying to have to go back to the video that I was just watching. But this does lead me to one of my favorite features, resume. You can tell it to remember where you left off in a video so that you can continue later.

Used to be awesome. Great at doing decoding in hardware (saves a lot of battery power, for the generally uninformed). But, suddenly and without warning AC3 decoding vanished... and so did the utility and existence of this on many of my devices. I hate to be a cliché, but I'm going to anyway. With AC3, this is a 5-star app. Without it, I resort to things like VLC or AllPlayer, and I just deal with the battery loss. I can recharge, probably, if I need to, and this becomes a 1-star app that just gets uninstalled. There is no middle ground in this.

It was great at doing what it did. Then it lost AC3. Oh well.

If I had been asked to pay a lifetime license to decode AC3 to never be bothered with it, I probably would have done that... but I wasn't asked, was I? Maybe in retort I should have used tools to transcode all my music videos and everything else (while I'm at it) to use something other than AC3. Meh. I'm tired already.

I loaded this free media player on a Fire TV because I couldn't find the Fire TV Media Player after the recent (Aug 23, 2021) update. Even before I found the latter, I uninstalled the free MX Player as it seems only to play videos. I commonly use VLC to play video while simultaneously using Fire TV Media Player for a slideshow. This combination is not available on my Roku TV which does only one media at a time, so kudos to Fire TV. Fire TV Media Player eventually showed up after falsely claiming that I had to reformat my USB drive for the drive and its media to be recognized, then later the Player recognized it. I hate the update, or, as my friend would say, I have hatred for the update.

Excellent kindle fire player

I've used it for years on the phone (excellent), and it's good on the FireTV stick as well.

VLC is better, especially for NAS and a variety of codecs/formats, but this is still one for the toolbox.
